PAIN MANAGEMENT STRATEGY
From 31 st May 2010 to 4 th June 2010, at Kigali Health Institute was held a workshop aimed at strengthening physiotherapy professional capacity so as to promote a better service given to clients.
Research has shown that pain has the dubious distinction of being the commonest symptom for which a person (80%) approaches medical care. This calls for a need for clinicians including physiotherapists to have a better understanding of pain (in terms of pain assessment and treatment).
The workshop was organized and facilitated basing of clinical reasoning and pain management. The objectives of the workshop included:
Developing and validating general standardized patients Physiotherapy chart to be used in every PT department in Rwanda as well as specific charts related to orthopedic conditions.
Use the charts through case studies
In this workshop, participants were introduced to clinical reasoning-“pain management”. Participants also reviewed different existing assessment tolls/charts and practiced on adapting some of the validated charts by case studies. Participants also studied how to apply evidence based practice in patients' assessment and treatment.
Let us remind that the workshop was organized by physiotherapy department at Kigali Health Institute in collaboration with HANDICAP INTERNATIONAL RWANDA.
